Maestro Tomasz Gudzowaty, born in Warsaw in 1971, is perhaps the best known Polish photographer today, producing documentaries, books, exhibitions and the front pages of the most authoritative magazines.
After a meeting with Ambassador Zanardi Landi, the project was born to donate thirty amazing images to the San Giovanni Battista Hospital at Magliana, owned and managed by the Italian Association of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. This generous gift is inspired by the golden booklet containing the Regulations of the Sacred Infirmary of Malta, the Hospital maintained and managed by the Order of St. John during the three centuries spent in Malta, from which it can be seen that the Order was, already in the 16th and 17th centuries, absolutely in the vanguard in Europe as regards the management of hospitals and infirmaries.
In addition to great care in feeding the patients, to whom silver plates and cutlery were reserved, it is striking that the knights had perfectly realised the connection between state of mind and health: to heal quickly and well, the wounded and sick not only had to be fed and cared for well, but they also had to see beautiful and cheerful things!
Hence the idea of donating to the Magliana Hospital a selection of works by Maestro Gudzowaty that might interest, cheer up or distract the patients: the small exhibition inaugurated on 13 December in the hall of the ‘Castello della Magliana’ brings together the works that, in the following days, will be placed in the outpatient clinics and wards of the hospital.

The realisation of the event is due to the favour with which H.E. Riccardo Paternò, President of the Italian Association of the Knights of the Order of Malta and President of the Hospital (and today also Grand Chancellor of the Order), welcomed the initiative, and to the support that came from the Director General, Dr. Anna Paola Santaroni.
