Antonio Zanardi Landi di Veano

Antonio Zanardi Landi was born in Udine on May 24th in 1950 and he graduated in Law in the University of Padua.
After having completed military service in the Army as second lieutenant, he worked for Italian automobile company FIAT.

In 1978 he began his diplomatic career.

In 1979-1980 he became the first Italian to study at the École Nationale d’Administration (ENA) in Paris. In the following years he served in the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the Foreign Minister’s Cabinet and in the Minister’s Office for relations with the Parliament.
Abroad, he served in Ottawa, Teheran, London and at the Italian Embassy to the Holy See.

From 1996 to 2000 he was Secretary General of the European University Institute in Florence.

From 2004 to 2006 he served as Ambassador of Italy to the Union of Serbia and Montenegro, from 2006 to 2007 he was Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from 2007 to 2010 he served as Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. He was then posted as Ambassador to the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan from 2010 to 2013. From the summer of 2013 he served as Diplomatic Advisor of the President of the Italian Republic.

Since 1994, he has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Italian geopolitical magazine Limes.

From January 2015 to December 2020 he is President of the Aquileia Foundation.

Since June 2015 he has been Senior Advisor of Pirelli.

From 2016 to 2020 he is a member of the Board of the Bambin Gesù Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Since September 2nd 2016 he has been serving the Sovereign Military Order of Malta as Ambassador to the Holy See.

On September 3rd 2022 he was appointed Member of the Sovereign Council, position he held until the General Chapter on January the 25th .

From 2018 to 2021 he is a Member of the Scientific Council of Confindustria.

He is Bailiff Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, He is Knight of Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, Knight of Grand Cross of the Order of Merit Melitense, Knight of Grand Cross of the Order Piano, Grand Officer of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great.

He is married to Sabina Cornaggia Medici and has three children: Pietro, Benedetta and Caterina.
