In October 2018, a Delegation of the Order’s German Association, the Malteser Hilfsdienst, took some 800 Sick Lords on pilgrimage to Rome, half of them in wheelchairs.

The Order’s Embassy to the Holy See supported the Malteser with contacts to the Vatican, enabling the Pilgrims to participate in memorable visits to the Vatican Museums and Gardens, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Wednesday Papal Audience.

Pilgrimage stops included the Magistral Villa on the Aventine Hill and the Embassy headquarters at Palazzo Orsini.
